Modern Man-made Wonders

Filed under: Blahs, Opinions, Travel — Guang @ 9:36 pm

I just came back from watching National Gepgraphic’s Megastructures series. This time they featured a megastructure that is currently almost complete situated in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It is named Palm Jumeirah. Just looking at it is just eye-opening.

Here just a small peek of how the island actually looks like…

Yes, yes, I know… It’s a shape of a palm! A date palm tree to be exact. And it’s not small… its HUGE! The whole island is going to accommodate 4000 homes, villas, office blocks, shopping centers, apartments, hotels and resorts! It’s so big, it can been seen from space! It’s it just amazing! My jaw feel to the floor when they revealed the size of the project. I heard of it before but I thought it was only a hotel, one hotel planning to build an island but I didn’t expect it to be actually A CITY! It was even dubbed the Eighth Wonder of the World! The palm consists of a trunk, a crown with 17 fronds, and a surrounding crescent island that will form a water-breaker. It is said that 70% of the real estate of the island has already been sold. And it’s not even completed yet until end of this year! Names include David Beckham and several other famous figures from all around the world.

The project was so successful, the crown prince which was the person that came out with the idea of this island wanted more islands which are much bigger than the Palm Jumeirah. In total, there will be two more palm-shaped islands which are bigger than the Palm Jumeirah which will be constructed around the area of Dubai.

Just a small glimpse of what Palm Jebel Ali will look like…

And Palm Deira, the biggest of the three…

Another interesting project is the The World project. This project is called the world because the project is going to take the shape of the world map! Yes! The world map! If I had the money, I’ll definitely buy up the piece of land that is Peninsular Malaysia. It’ll be interesting having neighbors but just to visit them, you’ll need a boat. Yes. No roads linked to your house. Just sea al around your house! Isn’t that amazing! Breath-taking views, relaxing breeze from the sea and no men in black suits and ties going door to door selling crap stuff to you.

Here’s how The World will look like when it’s completed…

United Arab Emirates has definitely a lot of money to spend! Building the islands are already going to cost billions but maintaining it for eternity will be astronomical! No country in this world including the United States will have that money to spend. Only oil rich countries like United Arab Emirates, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain etc will have that money. But it seems that only UAE is the only one that spend this amount of money to marks it’s name on the world map. The crown prince of UAE definitely has big dreams.

Well, that’s all, I got to say about this magnificent and astronomical project which each of the four projects has already started construction and the Palm Jumeirah will be completed end of this year. I’m still in awe….

Freedom of Expression

Filed under: Almost-classics, Blahs, Frustration, I Love Malaysia, Opinions — Guang @ 7:43 pm

Since a very young age, I believe very deeply in the freedom of expression, freedom of speech. It’s every human right to voice out their opinions and to be heard by all. It’s our right to voice out our opinions of a topic or to voice out in protest of something. In our peaceful country Malaysia, we all live under the watchful and smarty brain of the government that takes advantages of every single weakness of the people they rule.

They know, majority of the people don’t know the rights they own. They know that many people just keep quiet of everything they do. They implement acts and laws and ordinances that are just totally irrational but then the people just lay low. Silent under the shadow of the ruling throne. We just accept everything that the government implements as a rule although it may be a totally ridiculous and irrational rule. Well of course there’s a minority that do voice out their protest but unfortunately that minority isn’t big enough to make a sound loud enough so that the people up there can hear us. Thus, comes the saying, united we stand, divided we fall.

Every Malaysian are surely aware of the special rights that the Malays possesses and that we are not able to even discuss about it at all. Well, I don’t mind them having their own special rights but of course the situation must be a win-win situation. No businessman will sign a deal when there’s a win-lose situation. Both sides must profit from it in a certain way. Unfortunately, the real situation in the country doesn’t addresses it as a win-win situation. Too bad for me, I am in no position to voice out my opinion about it because once I open my mouth, ISA (the Internal Security Act) people will start coming after me and put me behind bars without any jurisdiction.

Besides that, the NEP (National Economic Policy) is another dumb policy that’s just totally irrelevant in today’s Malaysia. The policy states that every listed company in the share market must have at least 30% bumiputra i.e. Malay, orang asli, native tribes in Borneo, etc ownership. The orang asli (native aborigines) and other tribes that live in the island of Borneo, majority are totally not interested in this 30% ownership. So there leaves only the Malays to fill up that 30%. This 30% ownership by Malays has already been achieved a very long time ago. And now, our UMNO Youth has brought back this already obsolete policy. The real reason for these ruling Malays to bring back the NEP is actually to take over and have total monopoly of the country’s economy. Although the policy states that it is to bring the distribution of races in every area of the economy to be in equilibrium.

Just look what was 30 years ago and what’s today. 30 years ago, the timber industry is owned by the Chinese. Now the Malays has taken over. The car importing industry used to be Chinese dominated. Now just look, Malays again has taken over in this idustry. Naza Kia, Mercedes, Volkswagen, BMW, Maybach, Ferrari are all imported by Malay owned companies. The mining industry used to be 100% Chinese owned and now, hardly 30% is owned by the Chinese. The rest all owned by Malays. The heavy industry now is owned by Malays, construction industry too. The major oil and fuel company, Petronas, Malay owned. And all Petronas do is to waste money on building the World’s Tallest Twin Towers and sponsoring the Formula 1. How often do you hear that Petronas has made a breakthrough in fuel technology or they found new oil reserves to fuel our hunger for more oil. Nonetheless, Malays are still king in the government. 70% Malays and the number is still growing year by year.

They are just so greedy. However those Malays that I stated above are a very small group of the total Malay population in the country. Those Malays that are in the kampungs, supplying us with precious food are all neglected. Today’s NEP is actually to help the Malays that are already rich to be even richer. Those in the country side are all forgotten. These rich Malays are the ones that sit on the country’s throne. They are the ones that make rules. They are the ones that takes away the profits from the hard work of other races and those Malays in the country side. They have a never ending greed for more money, more power. They already have the biggest houses and villas in the country. The most number of cars per person in the household in the country. The biggest showroom in Asia. The biggest factory in South East Asia. The tallest twin towers in the world. One largest oil reserves in the region. What more they want? They practically want everything.

They’re like a parasite. A leech sucking out blood from the helpless population. Without the Chinese and the Indians, you think that you’ll have the world biggest this and the worlds tallest that. Without the Chinese and Indians, you “rich” Malays of today will still be in the kampung chopping coconuts in half. Why do you think that the British colonials imported Chinese and Indian laborers into the country? Why can’t they get you Malays to do it since you people were already here in bug numbers before the Chinese and Indians? The one answer is that you Malays are just too lazy to get your heavy asses out of your rattan chairs and come out to work. You want to stay in your kampung and live a slow and quiet life without the need to worry about improving your business profits and competing with others.

We Chinese and Indians work effortlessly to bring this country wealth. We work so hard to earn and suddenly here you Malays come and snatch everything way from us. You let us do the hard work by starting off our businesses out of scratch and our own pocket money and when our businesses become very successful, in you come and take over our business leaving us with nothing and having to start all over again from nothing. If the British didn’t bring in Chinese and Indian laborers to mine the tin and tap the rubber, today Malaysia wouldn’t be that different compared to Indonesia. The Dutch didn’t bring in any Chinese and Indian laborers into Indonesia and look what Indonesia has developed into. You Malays should be grateful the British came helped you to develop the country into what we see today. Instead, the British are portrayed as terrible colonials in our history textbooks that took away everything from you Malays. If fact, the British gave more back to you than what they took away from you.

Already having special rights and monopoly of the economy, you still want more from the already suffering Chinese and Indians. Don’t you people ever think of stopping your cruelty. You said the British took everything away from you which is fact gave you more than you asked for and now you are taking away everything from us Chinese and Indians. Not only that, you also impose all kinds of taxes and payments that we non-bumiputras have to pay and you don’t. You don’t offer us university placements and opportunities for tertiary education. Leaving only those more successful Chinese and Indians to send their children off to universities overseas. Those middle class ones are left in the dark with nowhere to go. No opportunity for tertiary education.

What else can I say. You’ve never gave us any opportunity to progress equally or at least a little slower than you Malays but in fact are pushing us back and degrading our race while you get more powerful and even richer with more corruption money flowing into your already overflowing pockets. So called “everyone is treated equally”…

To Be Gay Or Not To Be?

Filed under: Blahs, Frustration, Opinions — Guang @ 8:20 pm

That is the question. The one question that has been arising time after time in the 21st century as more and more gays come out of the closet. Okay. I’m going to give some publicity for this gay couple which is already famous in Singapore after creating a blog to catalogue everything they did together as a gay couple. In just 20 plus days of forming the blog, they’re already famous. 30000 page views a day! It’s like wildfire!

Anyway, back to the topic. To be gay or not to be. We are all born bisexuals. Whether we grow up to be heterosexual (straight) or homosexual (gay) is depending on the environment we were brought up in. Society’s customs “prefers” us to be straight. Nature “prefers” us to be straight so that we can multiply. We can populate the Earth. We can keep ourselves away from extinction. Religion “wants” us to be straight. Therefore, the majority or humans are heterosexual because in their head, everything is pointing towards being straight and being gay is not favorable.

Of course, nothing in this world is perfect. Nothing is perfect, including us. That’s why there are a few that tend to stray off to another route. Once they’re gay, you can’t change them. It’s like we birth defect, We can’t change a child that has Down’s Syndrome or a child with mermaid feet. Although we are born bisexuals, it just takes a while for us to become a hetero or homosexual. So you expect your child to be straight but by the age of around 5-7 years old, they have already developed their sexual orientation from the exposure they had since they were babies. So we can’t change them.

The fact is, not only us humans are gay. Animals too have a gay population. Beetles, birds, dogs, cats, every single species on Earth have a gay population. You might expect all animals to be straight cause they only live to mate and produce babies. Well you are wrong. There are gay animals, so why shouldn’t there be gay humans too? I’m not saying this because I’m gay or that I support humans being gay, I find them weird too like you but I do respect them. They were just brought up this way and they couldn’t do anything to change it. They have no choice but to live a life as a homosexual or live a fake life being a heterosexual minus the feeling of love towards the partner.

Gays deserve more than your insults and degrading words from your sharp tongue. It hurts their feelings. Imagine you being in their shoes. Imagine others blaming you for something that you are that you couldn’t change. If you dislike them just shut up and let it be. Your morally degrading words will not change anything except the rate of suicidal cases due to emotional instability. They are after all humans. They’re just like you. They have a functional body like you. All hardware is the same. Only the software inside is different. It’s like why did you choose to use Windows and not Mac? Why are there more Windows users than Mac? It’s the same. Why are there more heterosexuals than homosexuals?

So if you hate gays them just shut up. Your words will not change them to be straight. They deserve every right to express themselves. They are still human and therefore have the very same rights we “straight” humans have. Be more open minded. Accept things that are a fact. Neither your grunting nor your protests will change anything. This is life. This is what makes the world go round. Just imagine a world that’s just plain. Everything’s the same all around you. Won’t it be boring. So it’s good to have some variations around. Just accept the fact that gays are real and they will continue to be real for a long time to come.

Showing Affection is Wrong?!

Filed under: Blahs, Frustration, I Love Malaysia, Opinions — Guang @ 7:52 pm

What has Malaysia become?! First is we get stripped down to our undies for no reason as “protocol” calls it, then now showing affection is wrong. Malaysia is definitely more than truly Asia. Two students in their twenties were convicted against the law for hugging in public. Hugging in public is wrong?! OMG! Malaysia is definitely heading towards a Saudi Arabia-like country.

For God’s sake, it’s just hugging! What’s wrong with hugging? We hug everyone we know. We hug our parents, we hug our friends, we hug our loved ones, we hug anyone that has some kind of close relationship to us. Hugging is a sign of friendship. A sign that bring two individuals closer to one another. It brings two hearts closer to each other physically and spiritually.

So those two unfortunate students that hugged each other just wanted to show that they care for each other and friendship is forever. But of course, those so called “law enforcers” have nothing better to do except to find something lame to make a big issue about it. They are better of at roads and back streets lowering the already overwhelming accident and rape rates in our country.

Those two students only said that they were holding hand but of course, Malaysia Boleh! and so the authorities said they were snogging and acting indecent in public! What a difference! That’s like the distance from heaven to hell and back to heaven again! So hugging, holding hands is indecent then shouting, farting, talking with your mouth full, sneezing into someone’s face is also indecent. Then why don’t the authorities do something about these actions. Besides sexually indecent acts which I do not need to mention, those are just small talk.

For example, our country’s most respected leaders, Rafidah Aziz hugged our former prime minister, Mahathir Mohammad. If hugging is indecent, then BOTH of them should also be arrested for indecency!

It’s just sad. Malaysian don’t know the rights they have. Countries like the UK and US know their rights very well and therefore can demand for things they can protect themselves from. In Malaysia, if the authorities say it’s wrong, we just surrender and admit it’s wrong. We don’t even know we actually can stand for our rights for many things that the government has implemented as the so-called “law”. Unfortunately I can’t name one right now, but I’ve read a few articles that quotes a few laws that the government has enforced that is in violation of human rights. The more unfortunate thing is that we Malaysians don’t even know it is a violation of human rights. We don’t even know what rights we have! We’re just living blindly under the governments rule where they take the opportunity to do anything they want as they KNOW that we Malaysians don’t know our own rights. Just visit the Human Rights Organization website and you’ll discover many rights that you didn’t know you had.

Back to the topic. I know Malaysia is an Asian country and Asian countries tend to bend towards the more conservative side compared to western countries but not extremely conservative like those in the Middle East. So we tend to be moderate. We accept a little of this and don’t for a little of that. Personally, I don’t think that people should make-out or snog in public but we shouldn’t be prosecute for that either. Holding hands or hugging is nothing snog-gy. We see it everywhere. When you missed someone so badly and that person just arrived at the airport, the first you would do is hug the person isn’t it? In front of everyone else in the airport. Parents hug and give a peck on the cheek of their children to say goodbye before sending them off overseas for studies. All these aren’t something indecent. They’re just a sign of love which we “moderate” Asians can tolerate.

I definitely don’t want to see Malaysia making Middle Eastern countries a role model for their customs. That’s just too extreme for us to bear. Not to mention their countries’ own citizens. So if you want to stand for yourself and protect yourself from ridiculous accusations from the people up there, read up. Read up all the rights that each and every human being in this world has. Everyone has equal rights and no one has an exception. Not even your mother. So it’s good to know. It’s good to know extra and not just what is in our school textbooks. It’s good to know something outside the box.

A Little More Personal

Filed under: Blahs, Frustration, Uncategorized — Guang @ 8:02 pm

Something personal.

Today is the lowest day of my entire life. The day I felt like committing suicide. The day I wanted to run away from home. The day, I cried a river.

It will remain a scar for my entire life. A mark of the day, that the heavens came crashing down for me. The day, the feeling of love failed.

Never judge a book by its cover. Never judge my family by what you see from the outside.

I was so close…. so close to running away and ruin my entire future.

Emotional breakdown. T_T

Crazy Drivers

Filed under: Blahs, Frustration, I Love Malaysia, Opinions, Travel — Guang @ 3:36 pm

The previous day when I was driving back after picking up some lunch, I was happily driving through a narrow lane with cars parks on both sides of the road all the way from start to end. Three quarters squeezing through the narrow road, being cautious not to hit any mirrors, suddenly out of the blue, a big black BMW 7 Series driven by a woman in an executive suit, quickly rushed into the narrow lane. Blocking my way. Of course the BMW should back off because neither of us can squeeze through the already to narrow lane and I was three quarters to the end of the road so I of course would not expect to reserve back that three quarters that I just went through.

I sat there looking at her. She sat there looking at me. I stared at her, she stared at me. She expected me to back off! What a bit*h! Just because she has a bigger car, a BMW 7 Series which carries very little second hand value while I was driving a small Perodua Myvi which has better second hand value compared to BMWs relatively, she expected me to back up. Why the hell on Earth would I back up three quarters of the way when it’s easier for her to back up only one quarters of the way.

After a few very long seconds looking at each other, I decided to give in because I was already late bring the punch back home and my family is calling me and whaling for food. If I continued to stay there, neither of us would be moving. I jus got so pissed. At one point, I felt like rolling the window down and flash my middle finger to that bit*h driving that scrap metal. If had all the time in the world, I surely wouldn’t mind sitting there in the car staring at her until the sunsets and rises the next day. So yes yes, I lost the fight for a reason… So I had to back up three quarters of the road just to let she gig ass of a car pass. When she could pass, she didn’t even look at me, didn’t even say thank you, nothing. She just sped off in her scrap metal without a single feeling of gratitude. Seriously, I went through all the trouble to let her pass where she can actually make things easier but didn’t, and no sign of gratitude. What a bit*h! She shouldn’t even be driving that car, she doesn’t deserve to drive such a big piece of scrap.

Unfortunately, she isn’t the only big car driver that’s like that. Almost every single of them are like that! They take advantage of the size of the car to bully smaller cars to make them give way and move off. It’s just sad to see people in Malaysia which are supposed to be “hospitable and warm” acting like sakais (aborigine tribe) on the road. That bit*h of a woman, I hope she will one day lose all her fortunes and her car. No husband and no children. She’ll live a miserable life from that day onwards. Oh God, bless her….

Smoking - Part 2

Filed under: Almost-classics, Blahs, Frustration, Opinions — Guang @ 9:17 pm

This is my second post on smoking and what I think about it. After reading a post on Roberta’s blog about smoking and being cool about it. I too decided to blog about it.

Smoking and being cool totally doesn’t match. A cool person is defined as a person that dresses to the occasion appropriately and outstandingly and DOES NOT SMOKE! A “cool” person that smokes ain’t so cool anymore. In mathematical terms,

Smoking = annoying + idiot + doesn’t value life + selfish - coolness - manners.Smoking is like throwing your life away everytime you take a puff from that stick of doom. You just don’t realize such a small little thing can cause so much problems in the far and sometimes near future. People nowadays have walked out of the countryside and aren’t that conservative anymore and always want to try new things and experiences.Everyone has the temptation do something that they think and assume is cool and would attract attention. Of course there are ways to do that appropriately but most will go for smoking. Especially the boys. You boys and a handful of girls out there that smokes, SMOKING IS NOT COOL and yes it attracts attention but in all the wrong ways. There is a reason why restaurants have a special place for smokers to puff their poisonous gases. Why do you think that restaurants only allocate 10% of their premises for smokers and the 90% for non-smokers? Why don’t they allocate 50-50? If restaurants aren’t profit seeking, they will not even allocate a single space for smoking smokers.

Secondly, if smoking is cool, then why non-smoking customers in restaurants don’t want to sit together with the smokers? It’s it a good thing to join a group of cool people. But no…. Smokers ain’t cool. They just exude an aura of negative energy that repels everyone away from them. Once I’ve even seen a smoker blew smoke from this stick across the table and the smoker opposite him moved his head away to AVOID the smoke. Just imagine, if you smokers yourselves don’t want to breathe in other smokers’ smelly breath, imagine us non-smokers. We definitely don’t want to go near you. Second-hand smokers is 30% more likely of getting cancer.

So smokers out there, you are not only throwing your life away, you are directly murdering people all around you slowly. It is YOU that caused the world’s cancer rate to increase sevenfold! It is you that is contributing to global warming and air pollution all against the Kyoto Protocol. It is you people that are contributing to more hurricanes and stronger and more powerful natural disasters. With stronger and more frequent natural disasters, you are indirectly killing more people. This time not only those around you but those all around the world.

It is you, you smokers, boys and girls, males and females alike, as long as you smoke, you are just a recipe for disaster. You don’t bring any good to mankind nor YOURSELF. Only the cigarette companies are making tons of money out of your stupid selfless decision to smoke. A survey shows that in cigarette companies, only 15% of their high-ranking officials smoke. The 85% of the rest are not smoking and earning so much money out of your dumb decision. So look, you smokers aren’t help your fellow smokers either. It is the non-smoking people that are taking advantage of your weak mind and earning more than a living from all of your already empty pockets.

So think about it. Every single smoker reading this, you are not in a good situation right now. You are not doing any good to yourself, the people around you, the people around the world, mother nature and even to your own fellow smokers. You are pushed to a corner. Taken advantage of your weak mind and your addiction for smoking. All I can do is just to pity you smokers. Such a sad case…
