Earth Hour ‘08

Filed under: Announcements, Opinions — Guang @ 9:18 pm

Earth Hour is approaching quickly and in less than 24 hours, over 100 cities all around the world will turn off all non-essential lighting throughout the city. Cities participating in the event are from countries which include Australia, New Zealand, United States, Canada, Israel, Malaysia, Thailand and several other countries throughout the world.

So here’s the plan:

Taken from earthhour.org

On March 31 2007, for one hour, Sydney made a powerful statement about the greatest contributor to global warming – coal-fired electricity – by turning off its lights. Over 2.2 million Sydney residents and over 2,100 businesses switched off, leading to a 10.2% energy reduction across the city. What began as one city taking a stand against global warming caught the attention of the world.

In 2008, 24 global cities will participate in Earth Hour at 8pm on March 29. Earth Hour is the highlight of a major campaign to encourage businesses, communities and individuals to take the simple steps needed to cut their emissions on an ongoing basis. It is about simple changes that will collectively make a difference – from businesses turning off their lights when their offices are empty, to households turning off appliances rather than leaving them on standby.

So that’s in less than 22 hours to go for the folks in New Zealand and Australia. Compared to last year’s Lights Out event which took place on 31 March which only lasted 5 minutes, this year it’ll be bigger, better and will draw in bigger support in lieu of the world’s growing energy demands and global warming.

So it’s tomorrow, 29th of March 2008, 8pm local time. Off ALL electrical appliances, lights and anything else that runs on electric in your home.

P.S. It’ll not only help in telling all the industry polluters that global warming is getting bigger than we can manage but it’ll also help you save your electricity bill!! I’d say it’s totally worth it!

Spring

Happy equinox! Spring has officially started!

But it’s predicted to snow this Sunday?! It’s all global warming’s fault! Boo!

Hello

Filed under: Blahs, Nostalgia, Time — Guang @ 4:59 pm

Hello again my nearly almost abandoned by me blog. It’s been too long since I last blogged. More than a week ago. To be honest, it’s been pretty quiet recently since almost everyone gone back home to Malaysia. Well, all I can say is that I’m going Birmingham next week! Woohoo!

Other than that very exciting news,  it’s the holidays! Been doing exciting things at home. Been using my right side of the brain more often the past few days. I realised that the house is totally bare! Walls all white and totally unappealing.

Well, my house mates and me gave the house a good make over. The living room is totally revitalised. Furniture moved around and decorations added to the walls and table tops. More pictures of it when the total make over of the house is complete.

The stairwell was not left behind either.

I would probably say that the stairwell now is the focus if the house! Our little stairwell is now a journey through the solar system. The journey includes all 8 planets, the Sun and also not forgetting our dearly neglected dwarf, Pluto. Accompanied by numerous stars, comets, amazing facts of the solar system, wise and funny quotes and also numerous Unidentified Flying Objects and aliens floating around the solar system.

Next up is another 2 more walls in the house. I would probably say that this make over project would last throughout the Easter holidays. Will definitely post pictures up the minute the make over is complete.

Until then… Namaste!

Chapter 1 in Malaysia’s New Era

Filed under: Announcements, Blahs, I Love Malaysia — Guang @ 10:50 am

Chapter 1 in Malaysia’s political era begins today.

Been catching up with the General Election results last night. Was expecting a slightly lower sweep for our beloved Barisan National but in my opinion still maintaining their 2/3 majority of parliament.

Surprisingly, BN lost control over 5 states and lost it’s crucial 2/3 majority in the worst ever election results for our National Coalition since 1969. Hopefully, this rings a bell and brings them an epiphany that the people doesn’t like what they’re doing to the country.

Penang, the Pearl of the Orient, will be once again ruled by the opposition in 39 years. Kelantan is still in the hands of PAS and likewise in Kedah, Perak and Selangor.

Hopefully, this ushers in a new era for Malaysia and a turning point on Malaysia’s delicate political, cultural and racial relations. Looking forward to Malaysia’s progress in the coming years.
