Chritmas & What Nots

without comments

As I settle into work, my free time subtracts days by day and now is virtually at zero as evident in my inactivity for the past 3 weeks. Well, I guess all I can do now is just to tell everyone about my boring work life and its “hoo haa”s.

Well, firstly the business was due to me being in the company’s Christmas lunch committee. The lunch was on 16th December and I was “elected”, by a landslide vote from the other 6 committee members, emcee of the luncheon. Well, not that I have any violent objections to the responsibility. I’d rather be emcee and just prepare a simple script than to be in charge of the lunch and food preparation itself.

Turkey, lamb, spaghetti, salads, yule logs, candy, shepherd’s pies, lasagna, roast chicken, fruit punch and a heck a lot more food. ‘Twas awesome food.

Oh not to mention, it was also a masked themed luncheon where everyone has to get masks. Pictures above, is the most creative masked employee winner. Do you believe, he made that himself?! I would need lots of creativity and time to actually produce something with creativity level this high! Kudos to him!

Creative gift wrapping and exchange was another interesting one. Seriously, people at my workplace have heaps of creativity waiting to burst out into the wild. They can probably start their own gift wrapping service and earn bucket loads of profit from it!

I like this one. Really cute moo moo in a jar!

That’s about it  for my boring work life…. Not so boring actually. I love it!

In other news, Christmas is coming! Now since I am earning money, I have to start stressing on actually getting people “proper” presents and not expecting to get presents from others. Sigh, there goes my salary. Car loan, both mum and dad’s birthday presents plus TWO cakes, car petrol, food expenses, etc. No more savings! I still need to get a new notebook to replace my dying Dell that is already more than 4 years old (which is ancient in computing age) and I still want the Olympus Pen E-P1 camera which costs a whooping RM3000!

*faints*

And today, I just spend RM110 just on photo frames from IKEA to replace the current ones which are crumbling in my room.

Oh well, on a lighter note, is my job confirmation is coming pretty soon! January 1st to be precise. The entire world will be celebrating my confirmation with me. Whoop! How awesome is that?! LOL

Okay! 2010 New Year’s resolutions – save money for new notebook, camera and well… generally save more money for any future use! I guess that’s a pretty simple and straight forward resolution to follow. No going to the gym or lose/gain 10 pounds resolutions which are pretty ridiculous. Though I do think I really need to join a gym pretty soon looking how “stagnant” I am sitting and rotting at home.

Right, I think I should stop here. I sound like I’m talking to myself here. Reading this post again is creeping me out! Run!!!

Luxury

I’m truly blessed. On day 1 of my job, I get to attend a seminar and free lunch at the Banker’s Club, AMODA. Colleagues are great people, really friendly and lacking that unprofessional mentality that many Malaysians have that I absolutely dislike.

The job’s great, learning new things everyday. Well, let’s just say everything has it’s ups and downs. So far, it’s mostly ups. I think I’ll be on this job for quite some time. Can’t wait for my confirmation in around 2 months time. (:

Just last Friday, there was a company Hari Raya Get-Together with some civil servants at Jogoya Restaurant, Starhill. Delicious, mouth watering buffet with loads to choose from. Not to mention the great company through the night. That’s not it. This Saturday is the company’s Annual Dinner at Royale Chulan! 3 awesome meals all within a month! What can I say, I took up this job at the best time of the year! A good start and hopefully to a better future.

What I need now is a new DSLR camera to take pics of all these awesome events! Time to save up some money and hopefully get a Micro-Four Thirds camera by either Olympus or Panasonic. They’re way too expensive though. Will just wait a while longer for the price to drop further. That time will come soon! (:

Employed!

with 2 comments

Today marks the beginning of a new chapter of my life. The longest, most challenging, stressful, but yet most exciting part of life – work life. Got a job offer today and I start work next month! Woohoo!

Finally, I can slowly start to support myself and not rely on my parents financially. Thanks mum and dad! Now it’s my turn to support you!

I still have lots to learn though. Can’t imagine filling in income tax forms. I heard it’s a nightmare! =S

Scouserland

The end of June is approaching rapidly and the end of month spells the end og my housing contract with West One. Will be handing my keys in on Tuesday 12pm but I have a cunning plan under my sleeve. Due to me staying back for another month waiting for my graduation ceremony at the end of July, I’ll have to find a place to crash for that 1 month while waiting and doing absolutely nothing. Hence, I’ll be crashing back at my current room until the end of July when the friend, after next week my room shall be hers, will move in. So at least, no big hassle of moving all my stuff around everywhere like the past 3 years. It was absolute hell.

Anyway, 70% of room cleaned and clutter almost entirely removed and thrown away. Now my drawers and wardrobe is almost empty and hollow. And next week, they shall be filled again with my stuff. A small hassle but better than moving to another place entirely.

On a lighter note, Mr Chew has gone to Scouserland i.e. Liverpool for those that don’t know.

Liverpool’s now a much better city compared to a few years ago. Come to think of it, Sheffield is currently like the old Liverpool – old abandoned industrial buildings, grey coal dust covered walls of buildings. But Sheffield is currently going a giant overhaul of the city and every year new buildings sprout out bringing the city into to 21st century though we’re almost a decade late!

Albert Dock was a superb place to photo taking. Especially the views of the river mouth entering the sea and wide panoramic views of Liverpool bay area and Birkenhead.

Summer Equinox

with 4 comments

The longest day of the year is coming pretty soon. Exactly a week’s time to be precise. The UK has been experiencing summer on and off the past few weeks. The weather was great the past 2 days and before that was the heaviest thunderstorm I’ve ever seen here in the UK since I came here 3 years ago. Heavy rain, hail and endless lightning is a pretty rare occasion. It rained so much that it flooded here in Sheffield. Pretty bad too…

Well, just to lighten things up a little. Here’s an HDR shot of a picture I took several days before the gates of heaven opened.

P.S. I want a DSLR. HDR shots just isn’t as in depth as it should look when taken with a digital compact as compared to a DSLR. :(
